The Samaritan Center, one of ADRA's U.S. partners through Adventist Community Services (ACS), presented ADRA Headquarters with US$20,000 to assist in the ongoing reconstruction in Honduras following the devastation of Hurricane Mitch.

The funds were collected over the past year by various appeals sent out by the Samaritan Center to its supporters in the Chattanooga, Tennessee, area. Gail Williams, executive director of the Samaritan Center, presented ADRA Headquarters with the check on September 28, 1999. "ADRA is using the money to build houses for families who were displaced by the storm," says Mario Ochoa, ADRA executive vice president.

The Samaritan Center was also involved earlier this year in relief efforts following Hurricane Mitch. On April 16, 1999, a 40-foot container (32,000 pounds/14,400 kilograms) full of food, clothing, blankets, medical equipment and supplies and other items was shipped to the devastated country.
