Operational Updates
• In September, WFP supported a total of 285,353 people across its programmes, including through the distribution of 165,243 hot meals, USD 3.4 million in cash-based transfers (CBT), and 591 MT of food commodities. As of end of September 2024, WFP has reached 1.34 million beneficiaries this year.
• Through the emergency programme, WFP reached 33,329 people with 591 MT of food and 44,165 people with USD 1.6 million in cash-based transfers (CBT). WFP also distributed 165,243 hot meals to 32,263 people, including to 12,825 internally displaced people in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince (145,805 hot meals) and the remaining to 19,438 returnees from the Dominican Republic.
• In preparation for the 2024/2025 school cycle, all necessary stock for the School Meals Programme were prepositioned across WFP warehouses to ensure timely distribution when schools reopen.
o The Ministry of Education and Vocational training postponed the beginning of the school year to October 1st due to the socio-political context in Haiti.
o In September 2024, WFP organised nationwide training in four departments to prepare the new school year. This training aims to build the capacity of WFP and third party monitoring agents as well as cooperating partners' field agents in: canteen operations, the use and completion of management tools, programme monitoring and reporting,
Antifraud Anticorruption rules, the Beneficiary Complaint Mechanism (CFM), Food Hygiene and Safety, Nutrition, and school warehouse management. The training workshops harmonized the practices of all monitoring agents for upcoming school monitoring visits. These workshops are conducted in conjunction with the School Canteen,
M&E, CFM, Compliance, Nutrition and Suply Chain units. In total, more than 300 people including WFP staff, Cooperating Partners and Government Officials were trained.
• As part of its nutrition-specific activities embedded in emergency, resilience, and social protection activities,
WFP partners screened 8,500 children aged 6 to 59 months for malnutrition. Out of those, 620 were identified as moderately malnourished, and 213 were suffering from severe acute malnutrition. All these children were referred to health facilities for treatment. In addition, 23,709 people (62% women, 28% men) participated in Social and Behavior Change Communication sensitization activities. Among these participants, 1,601 pregnant and breastfeeding women participated in awareness sessions on nutrition, hygiene, and foodborne illnesses.
• Through WFP's resilience activities, 3,595 households participated in rehabilitation activities of community assets. A total of USD 429,650 was distributed to the participants and their family members (17,975 people).
• Furthermore, WFP supported the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour in implementing the Adaptive Social Protection for Increased Resilience project (social protection), providing assistance to 109,805 beneficiaries with USD 962,123 distributed.
• The UN Central Emergency Response Fund’s (CERF) financed collective Anticipatory Action framework was approved, for a total of USD 4 million, out of which USD 2 million are to be channelled through WFP cash based transfers and early warning messages if triggered. These are additional resources for 2024-2025 for anticipatory action against cyclones in Haiti.
WFP Logistics Update:
• September, WFP logistics operations focused on food offloading at various ports, receiving up to 91 containers of food and non-food items. A total of 1,589.5 MT was successfully offloaded at Cap-Haïtien, with 216 MT successfully transferred from Port-auPrince to Miragoâne to support ongoing regional operations.
