Operational Updates
- In October, WFP supported a total of 752,232 people across its programmes, including through the distribution of 178,446 hot meals, USD 1.9 million in cash-based transfers (CBT), and 828 MT of food commodities.
- Through the emergency programme, WFP reached 6,440 people with 85 MT of food and 38,970 people with USD 935,280 million in cash-based transfers (CBT). WFP also distributed 178,466 hot meals to 129,775 people, including to 22,717 internally displaced people (IDPs) in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince (69,448 hot meals) and the remaining to 107,058 returnees from the Dominican Republic.
- Through the school meal programme, WFP reached over 420,000 (with 743 MT of food) including 289,250 of them assisted through the Home-Grown School Meal programme. This makes October 2024 the best performance for the first month of the school year in 4 years.
- As part of its nutrition-specific activities embedded in emergency, resilience, and social protection activities, WFP partners screened 9,029 children (4,600 girls and 4,429 boys) for malnutrition. Of these, 231 girls and 564 boys were referred for Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) treatment, while 75 girls and 86 boys required Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) treatment. Awareness efforts reached 2,055 pregnant and lactating women, 10,376 women, and 4,908 men, promoting better nutrition practices. Additionally, 1.68 metric tons of Lipid-based Nutrient Supplements (LNS) were distributed, benefiting 1,119 individuals through the Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (BSFP), while 17,448 people received cash transfers to prevent malnutrition.
- Through WFP's resilience activities, 7500 households participated in rehabilitation activities of community assets. A total of USD 149,220 was distributed to the participants and their family members (37,500 people).
- Furthermore, WFP supported the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour in implementing the Adaptive Social Protection for Increased Resilience project (social protection), providing assistance to 114,360 beneficiaries with USD 803,790 distributed.
