In Haiti, the United Nations is assisting the government in cracking down on groups of armed men carrying illegal weapons.
Many of them are former military soldiers in the country and have been lobbying for the government to restore its armed forces, according to the UN Mission in Haiti, MINUSTAH.
Lieutenant commander Jim Hoeft of MINUSTAH said UN troops and national police officers set up checkpoints Sunday in and around the capital of Port-au-Prince and detained two armed men wearing military fatigues.
