Declaration by Bruno Maes, Humanitarian Coordinator ad interim

"I strongly condemn the repeated armed groups attacks in the Solino neighbourhood and surrounding areas of the Haitian capital and express my deep concerns over the humanitarian impact, including thousands of people forced to flee their homes.

The siege of the civilian population in Solino, including women, children and men who find themselves without access to water, food and fuel, is a blatant violation of the basic humanitarian norms.

I urge the perpetrators of these acts to cease the violence so that the population can live without fear in their homes, in complete safety, and so humanitarian actors can assist those affected."
