After a powerful earthquake hit Haiti we are responding by sending an emergency team to support our volunteers who are already working in the region. The quake hit the capital Port-au-Prince, measuring 7.0 in magnitude, killing and injuring many people.
MDM has a long standing committment to the region having set up a variety of projects in the country. This latest catastrophe highlights the need for a 'disaster risk reduction' programme which we are currently working on for Haiti.
MDM is sending a charter plane with logistical materials and medical equipment as well as medical professionals. This team will be composed of doctors, surgeons, nurses and logisticians who will be deployed to administer first aid and surgical operations as well as assessing any other medical needs.
