SITUATION OVERVIEW

In May, the deterioration of the security situation due to widespread gang violence continued to drive internal displacement. Following an attack on the municipality of Petite Rivière in the Artibonite Department, more than 5,000 people were forced to flee their homes. Over 25,000 migrants were deported—surpassing last month’s record—primarily from the Dominican Republic. Many returned in extremely vulnerable conditions, particularly children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and the elderly.

IOM provided safe water to 36,000 people, hygiene assistance to 59,000, and medical care to 6,400 individuals. In addition, more than 8,500 displaced persons received psychosocial support. IOM continues to respond to the increasing needs, but sustained support remains critical to reach the most vulnerable families.
