CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVES

On February 29, 2024, gang violence broke out in the Haitian capital Port-auPrince. Insecurity and violence are driving the crisis, leading to forced population movements. In addition to the 362,000 people who were already displaced in December 2023, violence has led to 90,254 people newly displaced in 85 sites, of whom 10,152 were female-headed households, 531 are pregnant women ( IOM's Displacement Tracking Matrix report in April 2024). Several risks of GenderBased Violence (GBV) have been identified accross IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) sites. In addition 44% of the population experience high levels of acute food insecurity (IPC phase 3 or higher). This increases negative coping mechanisms and consequently the risk of GBV/SEA as well as STI and HIV. The number of reported GBV incidents has drastically increased by 5 times in march that of February. 75% of the incidents are sexual violence, 15% physical assault and 10% psychological/emotional violence,(Source: GBV Sub Cluster Incidents report , April 2024). Around 94% of cases were reported by girls and women, 78% of incidents are reported by internally displaced person , the majority of whom are IDPs living in host communities. Thus alongside the intervention at IDPs sites, it is critical to reenforce Community-based protection approach as well as localization efforts by supporting women’s Organizations/WLOs (women-led organizations) for their meaningful participation in GBV risk mitigation
