Haiti

Haiti – Protracted food crisis (DG ECHO, IPC - Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, OHCR, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 21 April 2026)

  • According to the latest IPC report, an estimated 5.83 million Haitians are going to experience acute food insecurity (IPC3 or higher) between March and June 2026, representing more than half of the population. Among them, almost 2 million are in emergency situation (IPC 4). The situation is likely to deteriorate due to persistent high food prices, lack of stable income for most of the population and the rising oil prices due to conflict in the Middle East.
  • The increasing violence perpetrated by armed groups continues to disrupt livelihoods and prices, the movement of goods and households’ access to food and resources. Between 13 and 15 April, 3 017 Haitians were displaced after gang attacks in the Artibonite and Southeast department, according to IOM.
  • Floods in the Northwest of the country have deepened the crisis, with 16 reported deaths according to the Civil Protection.
