Haiti: Price Update for Port-au-Prince and Jacmel - April 19, 2010

Attachments

The volume of imported rice has increased during the last two weeks in Port-au Prince. All of the rice brands that were sold commercially before the earthquake are now found on the Croix-des-Bossales market.

The prices of black beans and imported rice have declined on the Croix-des-Bossales market. The decline in imported rice prices observed this week is in part due to the decreased price of rice on the international market. The wholesale price decreased from 150 gourdes/25 kg bag two weeks to 125 gourdes on April 12, or a 12 percent drop. This decrease was not entirely transmitted to consumers in Port-au-Prince.

There is less food aid rice on the market, and the price has slightly increased since last week, from 125 gourdes/6 lbs marmite to 120 grourdes.
