Haiti - Mobility Tracking: Monthly update on the displacement situation in spontaneous sites (April 2025)

Site assessments are conducted through direct observations and group interviews with key informants, primarily composed of site management commitees. Data collection teams, which include brigadiers (field agents) from the Directorate General for Civil Protection (DGPC), visit all accessible sites and interview key informants (an average of three informants per site). Sites that are inaccessible due to security constraints are assessed remotely via phone interviews. For this update, a total of 712 key informants were interviewed. In 99% of the sites, interviews were conducted in person, while 1% were completed by phone. It should be noted that this report does not constitute a comprehensive update of the overall displacement situation in Haiti. A significant proportion of displaced persons are hosted outside of sites, either in rental accommodations or with host families. Comprehensive updates on displacement are conducted through mobility tracking rounds, with the most recent being Round 9. These monthly site updates aim to regularly inform ongoing humanitarian interventions within displacement sites.

Between March and April 2025, the number of sites increased from 119 to 228, nearly doubling (+92%), mainly due to displacements caused by armed attacks in the Centre department (97 of the 121 newly created sites are located in this department). Although the number of sites rose sharply, the number of internally displaced persons in sites increased by only 10%, indicating that many newly established sites, particularly in provinces (in the Centre department especially), host relatively few individuals compared to existing sites located in the capital, the Metropolitan Area of Port-au-Prince (MAPAP). For the first time since the start of violence related displacements, the number of sites located in provinces (135) surpasses those in the MAPAP(93). However, 92% of IDPs living in sites remain concentrated in the MAPAP. On average, a site in the MAPAP hosts 1,882 individuals, compared to 111 individuals per site in provinces.
