Key points

27% increase in the cost of the food basket, up to 35,211 HTG (for a household of five) between January 2024 and May 22, 2024.

The use of the black market to purchase fuel at high prices (40-50% higher than the price at the pump) is increasing.

More than 40% of households in the Port metropolitan area experienced an insecurity related shock, and 9% faced shocks related to job loss and business difficulties.

The food security situation remains a concern for the population :

  • 65% of households do not have sufficient food consumption to meet their needs for macroand micro-nutrients, with the communes of Cité Soleil, Croix des Bouquets and Carrefour most affected in May.
  • At least 4 out of 5 households have adopted negative coping strategies due to a lack of food.
  • A significant and continuous drop in household income in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area : 61% of households have experienced a decline in their main source of income, including 46% with a decrease of more than 50%.
