In Numbers

  • 750,000 people in need of assistance
  • 336 people killed
  • 60,000 people displaced

Highlights

  • WFP started to distribute food rations to families in Jeremie on October 8th and Les Cayes on October 9th

  • Preliminary reports from the Emergency Food Security Assessment (EFSA) indicate almost 100% of crops destroyed in Grand-Anse

  • WFP has transported 195MT of food to Les Cayes and 126MT to Jeremie from October 7th to 9th

Situation Update

  • Preliminary results from the Emergency Food Security Assessment indicate that:
    • In Grand-Anse, almost 100% of crops are destroyed, livestock losses exceed 50% and trade is severely affected due to stock loss
    • In the South Department , the entire coastal area west of Les Cayes is devastated with more than 90% of the crops lost. The fishing activity is also paralyzed as material and equipment were washed away.
    • In Nippes, between 60 and 80% of the crops are lost
    • In the South East, the agricultural sector remains the most affected with up to 80% of loss for some crops (bananas, avocados,..)
