  • WFP has transported 100MT of food to Les Cayes and 14MT to Jeremie on October 8th

  • The United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS)deployed a 9-seater helicopter for assessments and rapid interventions

  • WFP is conducting an Emergency Food Security Assessment (EFSA) in the areas most affected

Situation Update

  • An estimated 1.3 million people have been affected by Hurricane Matthew according to OCHA (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs)

  • According to DPC, 61,537 people are living in shelters, among them 35,000 in the South Department.

  • The Minister of National Education and Vocational Training estimates that 300 schools have been damaged throughout the country

  • WFP assessment team located in the South department reported 95% loss of shelter (home, churches, schools) and harvest in coastal area.

  • A partial assessment of damages indicates that more than 200,000 houses were severely affected, according to OCHA
