Category 4 Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti on 4 October. It devastated parts of the country and affected about 2.1 million people. The hurricane plunged Haiti into the worst humanitarian crisis since the 2010 earthquake. The Government estimates that 1.4 million people need immediate assistance, including 180,000 people living in 224 temporary shelters. In the most affected departments the number of suspected cholera cases per day is almost 20 times more than the average before the hurricane. Moreover, it is estimated that about 800,000 people are in urgent need of food assistance.
