The Haitian Civil Protection reports 2,207 fatalities following the earthquake of 14 August. In addition, 344 people are still missing, more than 12,200 have been injured and at least 130,000 houses have been damaged or destroyed.
The EU Copernicus Emergency Mapping Service was activated to support the damage assessment (EMSR536) and 16 maps have been produced so far.
As of 23 August, response within the framework of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism consists of a water purification team with equipment (France), medical equipment, medicines, water purification plant, tarpaulins and kitchen sets (Spain), offshore vessel for sea transport and medical evacuation (Netherlands), family tents and structural tents (Sweden) and a telecommunication module (Luxembourg).
