  • The number of casualties has risen following the 7.2 M earthquake in Nippes Department (southern Haiti) on 14 August at 12.29 UTC.

  • According to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and Haiti's Civil Protection agency (DGPC) at least 800 people have died, 2,800 others have been injured and 6,300 families affected. In addition, more than 12,200 houses have been destroyed or damaged. Figures are likely to increase significantly in the coming hours and days. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

  • Tropical storm GRACE is moving west-northwest over the northern Caribbean Sea and will cross southern Haiti this evening bringing heavy rain and strong winds over the next 24 hours.

  • The EU Copernicus Emergency Mapping Service was activated to support the damage assessment (EMSR536) and six maps have been produced so far.
