See how your generous gifts have been at work in Haiti
The country of Haiti faced enormous challenges in 2010 - a massive earthquake, Hurricane Tomas, an outbreak of cholera, plus ongoing challenges that existed in the country before the January 12 earthquake.
Many people generously shared their financial blessings as a sign of their faithfulness, and in the hope that through their support, disaster-affected Haitian families would see hope from seemingly hopeless situations.
One year after the earthquake - while the media has focused on government inaction, the slow pace of recovery, and the seeming inability of Haiti to recover- Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) gives thanks for the response the generous gifts from Presbyterians and others have made possible.
Despite enormous challenges, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA), working with our Haitian mission partners and as members of the ACT Alliance, helped people survive by providing food, drinking water, and medical assistance so they would not die in the immediate aftermath of the quake.
However, many needs remain. The challenge now is to continue efforts that will move the people towards recovery. Ongoing efforts by PDA and our partners include rebuilding Haiti's health care, restoring food security and livelihoods, and offering school and recreational activities for children and youth.
As in other major disasters, we recognize this will be a multi-year response. In the first year, just over $5.8 million has been committed and/or expended for response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake. This is a little more than half of the $11.3 million that has been received, of which the full amount will support Haiti's earthquake response and recovery.

46 transitional and permanent schools built for earthquake-affected children
47 wells/boreholes dug for clean water
95 displaced persons camps in vulnerable areas including Cité-Soleil and Bel Air (includes water distribution, latrines, psychosocial activities)
19 school tents for temporary classrooms in 30 schools
800 women that are part of displaced families selected to participate in a credit loan program
962 latrines installed for water sanitation
1,600 people given support in agriculture, including tools, seeds , livestock, and training
1,841 houses or semi-permanent shelters built (300 rehabilitated and rebuilt with clear land title)
8,165 families provided with emergency shelter
