SITUATION OVERVIEW

The humanitarian situation in the Port-au-Prince Metropolitan Area (ZMPAP) continues to be marked by violence perpetrated against the population by armed groups. On 6 and 7 December, an attack organised by the leader of the group controlling the Wharf Jérémie district in Cité Soleil, northwest of the capital, killed at least 184 people, mainly elderly people accused of witchcraft.

Between 6 and 8 December, the neighbourhoods of Poste Marchand, Fort National, Christ-Roi and Delmas 19 were also the scene of attacks, causing the displacement of 4,726 people to seven sites, three of which were created specifically in response to this situation. In addition, clashes between police and armed groups resulted in several casualties in areas such as Delmas 30, 32, 19, as well as in Nazon, among others.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) announced that it had resumed its medical activities in the ZMPAP on 11 December, 22 days after they were suspended due to threats and attacks targeting its operations. However, MSF ambulance services have not resumed due to the high risks to staff and patients when moving around the city.

Despite the announcement of the reopening of Port-au-Prince International Airport and the Guy Malary terminal, dedicated to domestic flights, as of 11 December, commercial airlines have indicated that they are waiting for adequate security conditions before resuming operations.
