CONTEXT

  • The Port-au-Prince Metropolitan Area (ZMPAP) remains the epicentre of violence and displacement in the country. Despite this, humanitarians remain present and continue to respond to the urgent needs faced by vulnerable children, women and men.
  • Armed clashes on 28 and 29 January in the neighborhoods of Bas Peu de Chose and Morne à Turf, in Port-au-Prince, led to the displacement of 1,238 people (288 households), according to IOM. All of those displaced found refuge in 6 displacement sites. New sites were created in the neighbourhoods of Lalue (now hosting 562 people) and Bourdon (482 people), while the remaining 194 people found refuge in 4 already-existing sites in the Bas Peu de Chose neighbourhood.
  • 1,669 people (345 households) were also displaced, including to the ZMPAP, as a result of the violent clashes between armed groups and security forces on 27 and 28 January in Kenscoff municipality on the outskirts of the capital, according to IOM. Of this total, 67 per cent (1119 people) took refuge with host families while the rest are in three new displacement sites, all in Kenscoff, hosting 300, 150 and 100 people respectively. Of those now living with host families, 518 are in Kenscoff municipality, 564 are in Petionville, 25 are in Croix-des-Bouquets, and 12 are in Cité Soleil.
