Port au Prince/Santo Domingo/Cologne. This morning at 6 a.m. CET the four-headed Malteser International has arrived in Santo Domingo. There was a further delay of six hours as the plane going from Newark, USA, to Santo Domingo had to wait for a rescue dog team. After a short coordination phase the team will leave for Haiti. At present, however, it is not yet clear whether they will continue by plane or by car.
At the same time, the Malteser associations in the USA are preparing the supply of medicines which will be purchased locally.
The medical experts of Malteser International emphasize that the provision of clean drinking water and the supply of medicines will be of top priority as diseases impend to be spread due to the lack of safe water.
Attention editors:
Ingo Radtke, Secretary General of Malteser International is available for interviews.
