Guyana: Household flood relief cheque distribution continues tomorrow

Georgetown, GINA, July 12, 2005 - Head of the Planning Recovery and Implementation Secretariat, Robeson Benn is reassuring residents that if they are eligible, they will receive the Government's flood relief household assistance of $10,000.

"At the moment we are receiving cheques from the Ministry of Finance and we will begin issuing them to persons from tomorrow," said Benn.

However, the locations identified will be disclosed tomorrow so as to maintain crowd control.

During the period May 21 -- 29, the Secretariat granted an extension of the registration period to allow persons who had missed registration to do so. It also addressed queries and appeals.

As a result of this extension, there was a lull in the cheque process to accommodate for other batches of cheques to be printed.
