Operational Updates
• WFP is promoting the local purchase of rice to improve food security and livelihoods of vulnerable communities by supporting food production and farmers’ income. Out of a total of 233 mt of parboiled rice to be purchased before mid-October, 53 mt are produced by five Women Farmer Cooperatives in Forest Guinea and Middle Guinea. A quality inspection mission will be organized in September before the stock of parboiled rice is delivered to WFP’s warehouse.
• In August, WFP continued to provide preventative nutrition assistance through blanket supplementary feeding to children aged 6-59 months in the Nzerekoré region, Beyla prefecture, to reduce the risk of acute malnutrition during the 2018 welding period. In addition, WFP continued the prevention of chronic malnutrition in Kankan and Labe and distributed 19 mt of specialized nutritious food.
• WFP is prepositioning 912 mt of food in the suboffices in preparation for the start of the school year in October.
