As a member of the International Contact Group (ICG) on Guinea, the OIC participated in the 9th Session of the ICG held on 13th December 2009, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The meeting, jointly presided over by ECOWAS and the African Union, was declared open by the host Foreign Minister, HE Mr. Alain Bedouma Yoda. It also was attended by the United Nations, the OIC, the International Organization of the Francophonie, European Union, the Mano river Union, CEN-SAD, the World Bank, the Permanent Members of the UN Security Council, Burkina Faso and Libya as African members of the Security Council, Nigeria as Chair of ECOWAS, Japan, Germany and the Guinea parties represented by the Government and the opposition. Canada attended as an observer.
In a communiqué issued by the meeting, the ICG reiterated the continued commitment of the international community to support the aspirations of people of Guinea for an early return of democracy, the rule of law and the socio-economic reconstruction of their country.
The ICG was also received in audience by the host President and Mediator in the Guinean crisis President Blaise Compaore who briefed on his mission and vision. The ICG on his part encouraged him to continue in his mediation efforts taking into account the relevant decisions of ECOWAS and AU with a view to achieving an acceptable agreement between the parties.
