Guinea - Severe weather (Direction Nationale de la Météorologie, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 16 May 2025)

  • Severe weather, including very strong winds and heavy rainfall, affected western and southern Guinea over the past few days, causing a number of strong wind-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage. The worst affected prefectures are Fria, Dubréka, Mamou, and Gaoual in the west, and N'zérékoré in the south.
  • Media report, as of 16 May, one fatality in the Dubréka prefecture. In addition, media also report 17 injured, a total of nearly 5,400 affected people and ten damaged schools across the aforementioned prefectures.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more strong winds and heavy rainfall are still forecast over most of the country.
