Severe weather, including very strong winds and heavy rainfall, affected western and southern Guinea over the past few days, causing a number of strong wind-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage. The worst affected prefectures are Fria, Dubréka, Mamou, and Gaoual in the west, and N'zérékoré in the south.
Media report, as of 16 May, one fatality in the Dubréka prefecture. In addition, media also report 17 injured, a total of nearly 5,400 affected people and ten damaged schools across the aforementioned prefectures.
Over the next 48 hours, more strong winds and heavy rainfall are still forecast over most of the country.
