Situation update
Guinea

Between 23 May and 26 May 2014, four new districts reported 14 EVD clinical cases and 4 deaths. The EVD outbreak was laboratory confirmed in Telimele (7 cases and 3 deaths) and Boffa (Five cases and 1 death). Boke (1 case and 0 death) and Dubreka (1 case and 0 death) districts reported suspected cases which are being investigated.

All the cases and deaths reported from these four newly affected districts are epidemiologically linked to the cases and deaths reported from Conakry

In Conakry, 2 new cases and 1 death were reported between 25 and 27 May 2014 bringing the total number of cases to 48 including 26 deaths Macenta and Gueckedou districts continue to report new cases and deaths

Since the beginning of the outbreak in Guinea, a total of 281 cases and 185 deaths have been reported
Sierra Leone
As of 27 May 2014, 16 cases (7 laboratory confirmed and 9 suspected) and 4 community deaths reported from Kailahun district. The confirmation of the cases was done at the VHF laboratory in Kenema, Sierra Leone.
Liberia
No new case was reported from Liberia since 9 April 2014.
Actions taken

Regular meetings of the epidemic management committees at national level to review the current situation and propose preventive and control measures;

Detailed investigation of EVD in newly affected districts and implementation of control measures which include among others enhancement of surveillance, contact identification and tracing; establishment of isolation facilities and case management;

Social mobilization activities are ongoing to address community resistance

Deployment of national and international experts in the field to support response operations;

Promotion of cross-border response activities; and

Mobilization of financial resources to support investigation and response operations.
