Operational Updates

  • In January, WFP signed a partnership agreement with 12 local farmers’ cooperatives to ensure the supply of locally sourced food to school canteens nationwide. This agreement involves the purchase of 663 metric tons (mt) of rice and 109 mt of beans from the cooperatives, generously supported by contributions from the governments of Guinea- Bissau and Finland.
  • This initiative, with a total of CFA 491 million or US$ 800,000, will sustainably feed 178,000 children in 852 schools for approximately two months. Distribution has been completed in the Bafatá and Gabú regions, while ongoing in regions of Cacheu and Oio.
  • WFP aims to engage a minimum of 100 agricultural cooperatives by 2027 to ensure the provision of quality meals in school canteens nationwide. To achieve this, WFP is focusing on training and formalizing local farmers’ cooperatives while exploring connection with banks offering favorable conditions to enhance their business.
