Highlights

  • A Strategic Review on food and nutritional security situation in Guatemala with emphasis on chronic malnutrition is being finalised.

  • The first “Healthy-Not-Hunger” Global Dinner, catered by Chef Alex Quintana, was held in Guatemala City on 12 January. High-level national authorities, UN Resident Coordinator Rebeca Arias and important members of Guatemala’s private sector industry and the media attended this event.

  • WFP Guatemala Country Director Mario Touchette met with the new UN Resident Coordinator Rebeca Arias.

Operational updates

  • As part of its nutrition activities, WFP continued supporting food assistance to nearly 22,000 children aged 6-24 months. Stocks of specialised nutritious food were stored in cooperating partners’ local warehouses.

  • The United Nations Emergency Technical Team (UNETE), co-led by WFP and by UNICEF, met in January to assess the food security situation and humanitarian priorities based on the drought outlook. Capacity development workshops were scheduled for 2017.
