I. Highlights/Key Priorities

  • National State of Public Calamity due to TD E-12 and Departmental State of Public Calamity in Santa Rosa due to seismic activity and TD E-12 still in form.

  • Presidential Elections took place on November 6th, 2011. General Otto Perez Molina from the Patriotic Party (Partido Patriota) will take possession on January 2012 after receiving 55% of total votes.

  • Updated reports indicate: Dead 39 Injured 18 Missing 4 Affected 309,110 Sheltered 2,675 Official shelters 32

  • Number of shelters and sheltered people has been significantly reduced. However, number of people in non-official shelters still remains in 3,500 approximately.

  • A 2.2 Million US$ CERF request has been approved by OCHA. Clusters included in CERF are Food, Health, Nutrition, Shelters and WASH. Activities will be focused in 7 departments after analysis done by UNETE/OCHA. More information is detailed in further sections.

  • An Emergency Cash Grant worth US$ 50,000 has been approved by OCHA NY. Acquisition of materials for emergency conditioning of shelters after reception of an official petition will initiate next week.

  • UNDMT remains holding joint (HCT) and sectorial meetings (Food, Education, Health, Protection, Shelters and WASH) to share information and coordinate joint responses.

  • An Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) mission was deployed to Guatemala and other Central American countries affected by TD E-12 after request done by President Alvaro Colom.

  • CONRED has still not provided evaluation of gaps in needs and updated information on donations received.
