Six people killed in mudslide in Guatemala

MEXICO CITY, Jul 13, 2005 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- A mudslide killed at least six people in the northern suburbs of Guatemala City on Tuesday night, reports from Guatemala said on Wednesday.

The Guatemalan National Coordination for the Reduction of Disasters said two women and four children were found dead, while a 9-month-old baby remains missing, after the mudslide buried six houses by a ravine.

Following the mudslide, rescue workers rescued a 12-year-old boy and evacuated 150 people to shelters in Guatemala City, the reports said.

According to the authorities, heavy rains in recent days have resulted in overflowing rivers and mudslides in several parts of the country.
