The Executive Secretariat of CONRED, in compliance with its purpose and nature, continues to carry out actions aimed at prevention and safety of the population in the face of the activity registered by the Fuego Volcano, enabling a shelter in the Municipal Hall of San Juan Alotenango, Sacatepéquez.
This center houses 282 people from the communities of El Porvenir (267) and Las Lajitas (15), who were evacuated with the support of buses from the Climate Change Institute, the Ministry of National Defense and the Municipality, as a preventive measure. In addition, the Municipal Sports Center of Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa in Escuintla is ready to house people if necessary.
Among the resources available to those sheltered, we can mention: blankets, a family hygiene kit, a food kit, a cleaning kit, pure water, cots, and the Guatemalan Red Cross, as part of the CONRED System, provides pre-hospital assistance in order to meet the needs of the evacuees.
The monitoring of the activity of the Fuego volcano is maintained through the System of Coordinators for Disaster Reduction, the Department of Volcano Prevention and institutions of the CONRED System. Coordination meetings have also been held with community members and territorial authorities.
