On 16 November 2018, the Peru National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) reported heavy rain in the community of Cushipampa, San Pablo de Pillao District, Huanuco Department where an overflow of the Cushipampa stream caused mudslides and affected several homes and communication networks. On 19 November 2018, the Guatemala National Coordination for Disaster Reduction (CONRED) reported that El Fuego Volcano generated several moderate and strong explosions over the weekend, with ash columns at 5,200 meters above sea level dispersing 30 kilometers towards the west, southwest, and northeast. The volcano had an increase in seismic activity and generated ash particles in the following communities in Chimaltenango Department: Panimache I and II, Santa Sofia, Sangre de Cristo, Palo Verde Estate, and Alotenango. In addition, a red alert was declared for Escuintla Municipality. Furthermore, CONRED reported a total of 76,145 people were affected over the weekend and 3,925 people were evacuated, of which 2,152 were housed in shelters in the departments of Escuintla and Sacatepequez.
