Guatemala – Severe Weather (CONRED, INSIVUMEH, Local Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 4 July 2016)

  • Severe weather including heavy rain and strong winds has been affecting the country over the past few days, causing floods and a river to overflow. Approx. 361 mm of rain in 24 h were recorded in Puerto Barrios (Izabal department), as of 2 July.
  • According to national authorities 300 people were affected and over 50 houses were damaged due to floods and strong winds in the departments of Izabal and Jutiapa, as of 4 July early morning (UTC).
  • Over the next 24 h light to locally heavy rain is forecast for most of the country.
