  • In December 2012, the national average retail price of maize tortillas increased by 0.17% on a month-on-month basis. However, the price has increased by 4.36% since January 2012. Maize is the main staple in Guatemala.
  • Retail prices of major food commodities (Basic Food Basket/Annex 1) are generally stable in most of the markets in the country.
  • Slight increase (0.54%) in CPI and an increase (0.53%) in food and non-alcoholic beverage index was reported for the month of December 2012.
  • The inflation rate in 2012 was 3.45%, according to the Central Bank of Guatemala. The Central Bank of Guatemala set an annual inflation target for 2012 between 3.5 and 5.5 percent.
