On Monday, April 11 at 4:00 PM, Mr. Ikuo Yamahana, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Dr. Byron René Escobedo Menéndez, Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala to Japan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Escobedo expressed his condolences to those who lost their lives in the Great East Japan Earthquake, solidarity with Japan and his wish for an early recuperation, and presented a list of emergency relief supplies (15,008 kits of cold rations, 15,000 packs of fortified food beverages, and 10,008 bottles of pure water) to assist those affected by the earthquake.
In response, Mr. Yamahana expressed his gratitude for the direct call of condolences from the President of the Republic of Guatemala, H.E. Mr. Alvaro Colom Caballeros, to the Ambassador of Japan to Guatemala, and the messages of condolence by letters and calls from other Guatemalan high officials. Mr. Yamahana stated that these relief supplies symbolized the excellent relations between Japan and Guatemala and that those affected would be encouraged by the assistance.
