HIGHLIGHTS
ASSISTANCE, CAPACITY BUILDING AND LOGISTICS
IOM Caribbean dispatched relief items to all three affected countries for onward distribution. Items are being distributed by IOM and local partners in affected communities. Stocks of non-food items were replenished at the Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA)’s Caribbean Logistics Hub in Barbados, in close collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP).
Communities in Jamaica and St Vincent & the Grenadines have been sensitized on Resilient Roof Building for affected communities. Plans are in place for similar training activities from mid-November in Grenada.
An implementing partner was secured to assist affected households in Jamaica with roof repairs. 492 beneficiary households have been identified in St Elizabeth, and assessments are ongoing toward the target of 1500. Contracts are being signed with an implementing partner in St Vincent & the Grenadines, while beneficiary identification is ongoing in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) in Grenada.
COORDINATION AND ASSESSMENTS
IOM has been working in close collaboration with Ministries and technical focal points in all three countries to determine and refine fit-for-purpose responses based on government priorities, capabilities, primary data from IOM’s data collection tool, the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), and secondary data from the governments and other partners.
Assessments are ongoing, including technical assessments of emergency shelters for repair and upgrade, and community-based verifications for identification of beneficiaries. DTM is collecting information on affected populations in formal and informal shelters. Repair and upgrade of emergency shelters is expected to begin within two weeks, while assessments and costings continue at other emergency shelter sites and private homes.
