HIGHLIGHTS

  • As of 17:00 today, the US National Hurricane Center reported that hurricane and tropical storm watches and warnings are still in effect in some countries, with Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, and Martinique in the Eastern Caribbean on Tropical Storm Warning.
  • Barbados did not suffer major destruction according to preliminary reports, power outage and water service interruption were experienced throughout country. Queen Elizabeth Hospital did not suffer any significant damage, hence it remained operational.
  • Preliminary reports from VCT NEMO indicate private homes, private and public infrastructure have lost roofs, and major roads are blocked, including extensive damage in the Grenadines. While some health infrastructure are reportedly functional in St Vincent, the Ministry of Health have yet to hear any indication from health facilities staff in the Grenadines as they lost contact with them.
  • In Grenada, Mount Gay Psychiatric Hospital was reported to have lost a section of its room resulting to the transfer of patient to another facility,
  • PAHO maintains its ongoing coordination efforts with the Ministries of Health (MOHs) in the affected countries. PAHO’s regional response team has been activated and are on stand-by for deployment if required.
