Risk Analysis
At 5:00 am June 30, 2024, the center of Hurricane Beryl was located near latitude 10.7 North, longitude 53.1 West, about 500 nautical miles east-southeast of Grenada. Beryl is expected to move across the Windward islands early on Monday. Currently, maximum sustained winds have increased to 100mph and rapid strengthening is forecasted. Information from the Meterological Services and NADMA advises that Grenada can expect to experience Hurricane conditions from Sunday evening in to Monday. The Northern part of the island (St, Patrick, St. Andrew, St. Mark, Carriacou and Petite Martinique) may be more severely affected. As such, subsequent to an emergency meeting held last evening of the National Emergency Advisory Council (NEAC), the following decisions were taken: 1) Emergency Shelters, district emergency operations centers and the National Emergency Operations Center will be activated from 12 noon on Sunday June 30, 2024 2) There is a scheduled water turn off from 9PM on Sunday 3) It is unlikely that there will be school on Monday as most schools are being used as hurricane shelters 4) Once the NEOC is activated at noon, there should be updates every 3 hours
