After fleeing war or persecution, one of the most effective ways for people to rebuild their lives with dignity is through work and the opportunity to earn a living. Decent work enables refugees to provide for their families, become more resilient, and actively shape their futures. By utilizing their skills and talents, refugees can contribute meaningfully to their workplaces and host communities.
Since 2022, UNHCR has been working at different levels and with multiple actors to advance refugee integration. Building on over 70 years of experience from around the world, UNHCR works with the Government in line with Greece’s National Integration Strategy of November 2021, with municipalities and local authorities countrywide with the aim to enhance their expertise on refugee issues and include refugees in their programmes and services.
UNHCR, in partnership with NGOs across the country, offers a variety of employability services to asylumseekers and refugees. These services include career counselling, job matching, CV preparation, Greek language courses, vocational training programmes, support for the issuance of key documents, interpretation and legal advice. By engaging with the private sector, UNHCR and its partners directly connect refugees with employers to generate sustainable livelihood opportunities.
