- Firefighting operations involving 444 firefighters, 21 ground teams, 85 vehicles and 30 volunteer firefighters with 4 vehicles are still ongoing in response to the wildfire affecting Chios Island since 22 June. According to the European Forest Fire Information System (JRC-EFFIS), the burned area has reached approximately 6,700 ha. Media report that the extinguishing efforts are currently focused on the areas of Lithi and Kontilopos, in the western part of the island. Nearly 20 villages have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.
- The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated in rapid mapping mode (EMSR806) on 22 June, and five maps have been produced to date.
- Over the next 48 hours, the fire danger forecast across Chios Island is expected to range from high to very extreme, according to JRC-EFFIS.
