In the last 24 hours, 62 forest fires occurred across the country resulting in further evacuations.
According to the Greek Civil Protection, the main fires are located in Western Attica, Laconia (southern Peloponnese) and Rhodes.
In Western Attica, people living in the areas of Agia Sotira, Palaiokoundoura, Panorama and Palaiochori, Oinoi, and Erythrae have been asked to evacuate.
For the next coming days, high-temperature conditions are still forecast across the country. On 21 July, the risk of fire will be very high in Attica, Boeotia, Evia, Corinthia, Argolis, Rhodes, Samos and Ikaria, as reported by the national civil protection.
On 18 July, Greece sent a request for UCPM support, updated on 20 and 21 July. Greece request has been responded to by 8 Member States. France sent 2 canadaires from the European Civil Protection Pool. Italy sent 2 Canadairs, Croatia 1 Canadair and Cyprus 2 air tractors from rescEU. In total, Poland, Slovakia, and Romania sent more than 220 firefighters and 79 vehicles, while 50 firefighters and 10 vehicles from Bulgaria are on their way. An ERCC Liaison Officer is supporting coordination efforts.
The Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping (EMSR672, EMSR673, EMSR674, EMSR675) has been activated.
