Wildfires have been burning across central-western Greece, in particular in the north-western Peloponnese region since the afternoon (UTC) of 21 June, causing casualties and damage.
The wildfires have burnt so far nearly 3,500 ha in the area of towns and villages of Latas, Mastradonis, Apidoula and Alpochori (between Patras and Pyrgos cities, Achaia and Ilia regional units, north-western Peloponnese region). There are currently no active wildfires.
Media report, as of 24 June, one fatality and a number of preventively evacuated people across the affected area.
The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated in rapid mapping mode (EMSR730 and EMSR731) on 21 June and two maps were produced so far.
Over the next 48 hours, according to the JRC European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), the fire danger forecast is expected from high to extreme across most of the Peloponnese region.
