A wildfire near Rozena village in Corinthia region, Northern Peloponnese, which has been burning since 29 September, causing casualties and damage, is under control. According to the JRC European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), the wildfire has burnt an area of 8,195 hectares.
As of 2 October, national authorities report two fatalities near Elliniko village, two injured firefighters, and six evacuated villages, Pyrgos, Elliniko, Pellene, Sofiana, Spartineka and Lagkadeika.
According to media, national authorities have deployed 570 firefighters, 160 vehicles, and 11 aircrafts.
On 30 September, Greece activated the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). The Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) mobilised five rescEU firefighting planes from Italy, Croatia, and Cyprus. In addition, Serbia deployed one helicopter and France deployed two firefighting planes. The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated in rapid mapping mode (EMSR767) on 29 September, four maps have been produced so far.
Over the next 48 hours, according to JRC EFFIS, the fire danger forecast is expected to be from moderate to high in the affected areas.
