Overview

In 2024, a total of 54,417 refugees and asylum-seekers arrived in Greece by sea. The majority are from Syria (35%), Afgnanistan (26%), Egypt (12%), Eritrea (4%), and the State of Palestine (4%). Women account for 16%, children for 28% and men for 56%.

In December, there was a decrease in arrivals on the islands with 4,317 people arriving, in contrast to November when 7,054 individuals had arrived. The number of arrivals in 2024 has increased by 27% compared to 2023.

During 2024, the Dodecanese islands received the majority of new arrivals, accounting for 36%, followed by Lesvos at 20%, Samos at 18%, Chios at 10%, and other islands at 15%.
