Ghana — Population Mobility Mapping for the Mpox Outbreak (March 2026)

Attachments

This Population Mobility Mapping (PMM) in Jomoro Municipality, conducted from 22–26 September 2025, examined how mobility patterns around the Elubo border, one of Ghana’s busiest land crossings, shape mpox transmission risks. Anchored in IOM's Health, Border and Mobility Management (HBMM) framework, the PMM integrates population movement and border dynamics into public health analysis, highlighting the importance of mobility sensitive approaches to surveillance, prevention and response. Daily flows of 1,500–2,000 travellers at the formal point of entry (PoE) and regular movement across nine informal routes create continuous cross-border interaction between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, increasing the likelihood of cross-border mpox transmission.
