Situation overview: With the Influx of over 15,000 asylum seekers into Ghana’s Upper East and Upper West regions. The residents of Zini and Tarikom settlements and the host communities face significant challenges related to protection, shelter, food security, livelihoods, education, WASH, and healthcare. Shelter is a predominant issue for settlement residents, while education needs focused attention in the host community. Asylum seekers along the two border regions of Ghana are currently being hosted formally in two settlement centers

• The Tarikom settlement in the Upper East Region has registered around 3,568 (1,052 Households) out of an estimated 8,107 asylum seekers. 58% of the asylum seekers in the Upper East region are children, and 62% are females of reproductive age1, while 29% of the population has at least one specific need2.
• The Zini settlement in the Upper West Region, initiated in April 2024, has registered 396 individuals ( 112 Households) from an estimated 6,892 asylum seekers. 62% of the asylum seekers are children, 47% are females of reproductive age, and 49% of the population have at least one specific need.3
