Wildfires have been affecting Saxony, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Thüringen, eastern Germany since 1 July, causing injuries and evacuations.
Media, as of 3 July, reports that two people have been injured and more than 100 people had to evacuate in the three villages in Saxony. Authorities have declared emergency status for three communes in Meißen, Saxony.
National authorities deployed more than 500 firefighters who have been facing challenges in reaching the flames in Saxony as the wildfires are partially situated on a disused military training ground, where unexploded ordnance pose a risk of detonation.
The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated in rapid mapping mode (EMSR810) on 3 July to analyse the impact of the fires.
Over the next 48 hours, according to the European Forest Fire Information System (JRC EFFIS), the fire danger forecast is expected to be high to very high for Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thüringen, and the south of Brandenburg.
