Following the 6.0 earthquake on April 25,
2002, World Vision was among first organizations to meet the needs of those
sleeping in tents after the hit destroyed their dwellings.
Second food and nonfood items distribution
was done on May 10 in 4 collective areas. A number of 1,715 people from
588 households received wheat flour, vegetable oil, beans and canned fish.They
have also received clothing and foot wear.
WV Switzerland committed $42,400, while WV Hong Kong provided another $5,000. The money will be used for the water/sanitation projects.
After the food distribution, WVG started distribution of bread last 12 May. This is done in partnership with World Food Program, that supplied the wheat flour. All the other expenses incurred in the baking of bread, distribution and monitoring will be shouldered by WVG. Total number of beneficiaries that will be assisted is 1,080 for a 20-day period.
WVG is planning to be involved in the longer term project of rehabilitation and will focus mainly on rehabilitation of schools, clinics and hospitals.
