On May 15, 2007, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valeri Chechelashvili met with head of the European Commission's Delegation to Georgia Per Eklund, Ambassador of France to Georgia Pillipe Lefort, Charges d'Affaires on German Affairs Christian Perhorst. The meeting was attended by Director of the International Organizations' Department Alexandre Nalbandov.
The sides discussed the recent development of events in the Tskhinvali Region with emphasis on the Georgian side's latest decisions on the setting up of a temporary administrative-territorial unit on the territory of the former Autonomous Region of South Ossetia and assigning the right of exercising administrative power on the unit's territory to Dimitri Sanakoev, leader of the movement 'South Ossetian People for Peace'.
The foreign guests reaffirmed their support for the Georgian Government's efforts towards conflict resolution and expressed hope that the recently adopted decisions will further promote this process.
A special note was taken of the Georgian Government's readiness to conduct peace negotiations with the region's all political stakeholders disposed for a constructive dialogue and a full-scale resolution of the conflict with full respect for Georgia's territorial integrity.
The Georgian side underlined the necessity of timely and due fulfillment by the joint peacekeeping forces of their mandated duties that is not yet the case regretfully.
At the end of the meeting the sides agreed to continue active cooperation on the issues related to the Tskhinvali region.
