1. UN RESIDENT COORDINATOR IN BANJUL REPORTS THAT HEAVY RAINS CAUSED FLOODING LAST WEEK IN UPPER RIVER DIVISION OF GAMBIA.

2. TOWN OF BASSE, ADMINISTRATIVE SEAT OF DIVISION SOME 400 KM AWAY FROM BANJUL, SUFFERED DAMAGE TO HOUSES, SHOPS, AND LIVESTOCK. NEARLY 300 PEOPLE WERE REPORTEDLY AFFECTED, WITH GOOD NUMBER OF PEOPLE DISPLACED.

3. FOUR VILLAGES (MANNHE KUNDA, SAMBA TAKO, GEROBA BASSENDING, AND TAMBA SANSANG) ALONG EASTERN END OF RIVER GAMBIA HAVE ALSO BEEN AFFECTED.

4. ACCORDING TO GAMBIA RED CROSS SOCIETY (GRCS), REFUGEE CAMP IN KUNDAM HAS ALSO SUFFERED DAMAGE TO SOME OF ITS NEWLY-BUILT STRUCTURES, INCLUDING TOILETS, BATHROOMS, HOUSES, AND SKILLS CENTERS, RESULTING IN DISPLACEMENT AND RELOCATION OF SOME REFUGEES.

5. GRCS, WORKING CLOSELY WITH LOCAL GOVT, IS APPEALING FOR ASSISTANCE. RELIEF NEEDS INCLUDE FOOD, CLOTHES, BLANKETS, AND OTHER HOUSEHOLD ITEMS. GRCS HAS ALREADY STARTED RELIEF ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING PROVISION OF CLOTHES AND GENERAL FIRST AID.

6. IN RESPONSE TO GRCS REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE, IFRC IS IN PROCESS OF LAUNCHING LIMITED-SCALE APPEAL.

7. THIS REPORT HAS BEEN PREPARED IN CONSULTATION WITH IFRC.

8. DHA, THROUGH UN RESIDENT COORDINATOR IN BANJUL, CONTINUES TO MONITOR SITUATION, AND WILL PROVIDE UPDATES AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE.

9. FOR COORDINATION PURPOSES, DONORS ARE REQUESTED TO INFORM DHA-GENEVA, AS INDICATED BELOW, OF BILATERAL RELIEF MISSION/PLEDGES/ CONTRIBUTIONS AND THEIR CORRESPONDING VALUE BY ITEM.
